What Is Lumber Tycoon 2?

Lumber Tycoon 2 is a long-running Roblox sandbox tycoon by Defaultio. You cut trees, process and sell wood, buy land, upgrade tools and vehicles, and use the profits to build increasingly complex bases and machines.

The game’s own welcome is simple: this is Lumberland, so chop down the forest around you and build your own things. Most of the game is open-ended: your progress is the money you make, the land you own and what you build on it.

It opened to the public in 2015 as the sequel to the original 2008 Lumber Tycoon, and it is still updated. The official game page points players to the Changelog in the game menu for the latest changes.

Lumber Tycoon 2 Quick Start

Your first few minutes, in order. The in-game tutorial walks you through the same steps.

  1. Buy Your First Axe

    Head to Wood R Us, the store right in front of spawn. Buy the Basic Hatchet for $12. The new-player tutorial sends you here for your first axe.

  2. Chop and Sell Wood

    Keep hitting the trunk of a nearby tree. A black cut line spreads with each swing, and the tree falls once the cut goes all the way through. Sell the logs on the Wood Dropoff conveyor, or run them through a sawmill first: planks sell for more.

  3. Buy Land and Build

    The tutorial then has you buy land. Your first plot costs $100 of in-game Money. With a plot of your own you can set up a sawmill, storage and conveyors, and start building your base.

Core Game Systems

Axes

Your axe decides how fast you chop and how well you handle thicker trees. Axes range from beginner and store axes to rare and event axes, plus special ones like the Rukiryaxe.

Wood Types

Each region grows its own trees, and each wood has its own value and uses. Starter woods grow around the Main Biome; rarer woods are harder to reach. Some players farm wood for money, others collect it for its color when building.

Vehicles

Vehicles carry you, your logs and planks, and quest items. They are what make farming distant biomes worth the trip.

Sawmills and Conveyors

Sawmills turn logs into planks, and conveyors move wood for you. Together they let you automate processing, which is what sets Lumber Tycoon 2 apart from a simple chopping game.

Building and Logic

On your own land you can build from blueprints and use wiring and logic to make lights, teleporters, sorters and other automated machines.

Locations and Secrets

Lumberland is split into regions such as the Main Biome, Taiga, Volcano, Tropics and Swamp, with hidden places like the Maze and the Lost Cave tucked in between.
